About

I have spent my life enamored with photography, whether behind the camera, teaching about the medium, or making work that considers the lens.

My first camera was a Kodak Disc at age 6. What began as a spy hobby developed into a lifelong relationship. I worked at a portrait studio in high school, shunning sports for the darkroom. My fascination with people led me to a Bachelor's Degree in Comparative Sociology from the University of Puget Sound. I then studied photography at The Maine Media Workshops where I taught for many years, before earning my MFA from CalArts.

When not teaching, I have embraced a migratory lifestyle for my practice. You can find that branch of my work at www.lindsayfoster.com

I now live on Vashon Island, with my daughter Luca and my partner Raleigh.  I find myself reconnecting with portraiture as a meaningful way of marking the present -  a return to a simple gesture and an effervescent beauty in the moment.
